Powerful tools for business
Micro businesses or small business today now have access to social media and cloud software which in the right hands creates a competitive advantage. What is available now is so extensive compared to when I started my company some 20 years ago.
There are now so many ways to market your business. The web has changed radically in that time too. In the early days email and html websites and discussion boards formed most of the channels, along with the traditional channels of advertising.
Now we have content marketing, business blogging using platforms such as WordPress and social media with facebook, twitter, Linked In and more plus reasonably priced cloud software to access software and programs that used to be so expensive.
You no longer need to own software and are able to access most services via a browser and multiple devices, synchronised with each other, from where-ever you are.
Watch this interview with Peter Williams from Deloitte talking about social media and the cloud from 2012 and is still relevant in 2014.
Now, the warning. While the technology has changed, strategy is more important than ever.
You will still need to think things through, to reflect on and evaluate what your business is about or where it might be going.
The danger is in being deflected from your core business by chasing the latest technology or offering (tactical) in the hope that it helps.
The basics of business are still important (ie. have a product, make or buy it, sell it, deliver it profitably). Relationships are critical and as this video points out, you need to be relevant in whatever social media channel you choose to reach out to your customer base.
However with the cloud and social media many of the helpful tools are more affordable and readily available to help implement your business strategy.cheers
